2007 Parade of Affordable Homes
June 16 - 24, 2007
-
The Parade of Affordable Homes is an educational and fundraising event that will take place in King, Snohomish and Piercecounties and will last for nine days, over two weekends. The objectives for the event include:
- To change perceptions that a modest “starter home” can be livable and desirable
- To demystify the home buying process for first time home buyers
- To provide information to prospective, lower-income, first-time homebuyers about available gap financing programs that may allow them to achieve home ownership
- To raise critical funds for Washington Homeownership Center programs and services
- Tour clusters:
- SOUTH: South King - North Pierce (Kent-Auburn to Puyallup)
- NORTH: North King – South Snohomish (Lynnwood – South Everett)
- CENTRAL - Greater Seattle/Bellevue
- Showcase homes will be primarily new construction, however, may also include examples of existing, remodeled housing and non-profit developed housing that is self-help or under-market. All Showcase homes must be priced below $350,000, decorated and staged for sale. Each Showcase Home will appear on the Parade of Homes Map and the Passport in order to encourage traffic through the Showcase tour.
- In addition to the Showcase Tour, real estate professionals can submit listings for affordable properties within the geographic outline of each Tour cluster. These listings will be included on online versions of the map only.
- Coordinated to coincide with the Annual WHC Partnership Breakfast event, (June 15th at the New Holly Gathering Hall) and National Homeownership Month. Funds raised will support Washington Homeownership Resource Center services and the new online database. Keynote speaker: Rey Ramsey from One Economy. 2007 Partnership Award Recipient: Kim Herman of Washington State Housing Finance Commission
- Participants receive a map and “passport” to encourage traffic through the Showcase homes. When completed passport is submitted, client will be entered into the daily drawing for a "grand prize" shopping spree from IKEA.
