Partner Spotlight: American Financial Solutions (AFS)
Many of the individuals and families AFS serves are navigating complex financial challenges that are deeply connected. Rising housing costs, limited inventory, and home prices that exceed loan qualification amounts make it difficult to secure stable housing, even for those who are financially ready.
At the same time, many clients are managing debt, working to improve their credit, and trying to keep up with everyday expenses in an increasingly expensive economy. A lack of clear, trustworthy information about available resources and options can make these challenges feel overwhelming.
Together, these factors can make it difficult for people to move forward with confidence, even when they are motivated to make positive financial changes. Thats why access to trusted, community-based resources like AFS and strong partnerships are so important in helping people navigate these challenges.
American Financial Solutions (AFS) is a nonprofit credit, debt, and housing counseling agency focused on helping individuals and families build the financial foundation needed for stable, sustainable housing.
AFS believes that financial stability and housing stability are deeply connected, and that access to trusted guidance can make a meaningful difference over time.
Since 1999, American Financial Solutions has provided nonprofit credit, debt, and housing counseling as a division of the North Seattle College Foundation. Their work is grounded in a commitment to quality, accountability, and supporting individuals and families with trusted, accurate information.
AFS takes a holistic approach, recognizing that housing challenges are often connected to credit and debt. Their counselors work with clients to understand their full financial picture and take practical steps forward whether that means addressing credit barriers, managing debt, or preparing for homeownership.
As a HUD-approved counseling agency, AFS provides trusted, individualized guidance across credit, debt, and housing to help people make informed decisions and create lasting stability.
AFS helps clients navigate these interconnected challenges by looking at their full financial picture and recognizing that housing, credit, and debt rarely exist in isolation.
Their counselors work one-on-one with individuals and families to understand where they are financially and identify practical, realistic steps forward. This may include building a budget, working on improving credit, addressing debt through structured repayment options, or preparing for and sustaining homeownership.
For those facing housing-related decisions or instability, AFS provide targeted counseling such as pre-purchase guidance, foreclosure prevention support, and reverse mortgage education. Alongside this, AFS help clients strengthen their financial foundation because long-term housing stability depends on more than just access to housing.
AFS approach is individualized, practical, and focused on helping people move forward with greater clarity and stability.
AFS offers a range of services that support financial stability across housing, credit, and debt:
