The Questions We Hear, The Answers You Need

By Elizabeth Perez, WHRC Executive Director

Every day, dozens of people reach out to WHRC with questions about buying a home, staying in the home they already own, or figuring out what to do when something doesn’t go as planned. We hear from folks in every corner of the state, and the questions are as varied as the communities we serve.

A homeowner may be worried about falling behind on their mortgage and unsure where to turn. Someone may struggle with property taxes or rising HOA dues. They may face a major repair or need to discuss options after a change in income, a divorce or another major life event.

And we hear plenty of questions from people who want to buy a home but aren’t sure where to start or aren’t sure whether homeownership is still possible for them. Sometimes their credit isn’t where they want it to be, or their income makes qualifying for a loan difficult. We hear from buyers who have been told “no” and wonder what other tools or resources might exist.

These are the kinds of questions we hear every day. They are a big part of why our organization exists.

At WHRC, our job is to listen, help people understand what options may be available, and connect them with vetted resources and organizations that can provide the right kind of assistance.

Because we hear from households across every county of the state each year, WHRC gets to notice patterns. When we hear the same question from homeowners in Spokane, Chelan, Thurston, and Klickitat Counties, that’s telling us something. When a particular issue starts coming up more often on our hotline or at community events, we pay attention.

Sometimes the answer is a resource that people simply don’t know exists. It could be a program that needs better outreach or explanation. And sometimes, there isn’t a good answer yet, but knowing about the issue allows us to shed light on it and work with our many partners toward solutions.

We’re launching this blog as another way to share what we’re hearing and learning, with households across Washington. Here we will highlight topics that are coming up in conversations with community members, and we’ll bring in people who can help answer the questions behind those topics.

You’ll hear from experts who work with Washington households every day, answering YOUR questions about all things homeownership.

We know a blog post can’t address every situation, and sometimes a person’s circumstances require urgent, individualized help. If you’re a Washington homebuyer or homeowner and aren’t sure where to turn, that’s what our team is here for, and you can call us at 877-894-4663. We’ll listen to what’s going on, help you understand what kind of assistance may be available, and connect you with vetted resources when we can.

Then we’ll keep listening! The questions we hear from Washingtonians help us understand what homeowners and homebuyers across our state are experiencing, and where there may be opportunities to make things work better.

We hope this blog will become another place where you can find useful information, discover resources you didn’t know existed, and see the questions you’re asking reflected in a larger conversation about homeownership in Washington.

If there’s something you’d like us to cover, let us know. Your question might be one your neighbor has, too. 给我们留言 with your question or topic idea.
